Las Vegas and Garth Brooks: Could there be a better combo?

Sorry for the poor quality! We were moving.
So I'm not the biggest country music fan. I got into it in junior high & high school and fell in love with Garth Brooks. I would sing Friends in Low Places and Two Pina Coladas constantly. It is only now that I'm older I understand the meaning of "let's all set sail with Captain Morgan." The album Garth Brooks Double Live is my fave. Something about a live performance. I was devastated when he retired because I thought I would never get to see him live. Not the case thanks to my fabulous Husband and Steve Wynn. We drove out to Vegas on Friday, taking our time, enjoying the ride.

We cruised the Strip, did some shopping and ate some amazing food. On Saturday night we saw the 10:30 pm show which was amazing. It was like hanging out with Garth in his living room asking him about his influences. He started in the 60s talking/playing music that his parents listened to (Haggard and Jones). He moved throughout the 70s (James Taylor), the 80s (George Strait) and finally started playing his hits from the 90s. It was great, you really got a sense of where his sound came from. His wife, Trisha Yearwood came out and sang a few of her songs along with a duet. He also stayed later since we were the last show on Saturday night.

Anyways, it was a really fun weekend. We also got to spend some time with our Seal Beach neighbors who live part time in Las Vegas. They took us to dinner one night and shooting Sunday afternoon. Let me tell you, I'm lethal.

Viva Las Vegas

A cliche headline I know, but Husband and I are on the open road as we speak. We love Vegas, not for the gambling or partying, but the food, lights and shopping! It has also played a big part in our courtship. It's where we first spent some quality time as friends, the place where he first told me he loved me and where he proposed. So here's to a weekend of revisiting old memories and making new ones.

* I will also be testing out Blogger's mobile app and blogging on the go!

Our First Valentine's Day

Although Hubs and I first met our senior year of high school, we did not start dating until college. He asked me out New Years Eve 2004 so our first Valentine's Day came up quick. He planned a beautiful dinner in my parents backyard with tons of candles. We then listened to a cd of love songs he had made for me and exchanged gifts. It was quiet, romantic, and intimate. A day I will never forget and probably one of my favorite Valentine's days. We are going on our sixth year of marriage and we will have many more romantic dinners and dates, but that first one will always be special. Happy Valentine's Day Bobby, I love you.

Manic Monday

Another Manic Monday. Last week was filled with busy-ness, lots of meetings, and new challenges. Even the weekend seemed full of work. This week I'm focusing on positive changes that I have control over and surrendering all to God. On Friday Hubs and I are heading to Vegas. He got me tickets to see Garth Brooks as a Christmas/Valentine's Day gift. I can hardly wait to eat good food, take in all the lights and spend time with my love watching the Bellagio fountain show. Here is the show/song that played when my Hubs proposed. Hope it gets you through this Manic Monday. ;-)

Although our Christmas card was a bit different it is the same picture. This is what I wanted to have, but I need photoshop. You hear that Santa?

Wedding Planning

Got your attention? Ok good. A couple of weekends ago Hubs and I got invited to head to Julian with our  favorite engaged couple Brett & Cara. Julian is the cutest little mountain town about 30-40 minutes from Escondido where Bobby and I grew up and Brett & Cara are getting married there in January. We left early Sunday morning and headed to the Pine Hills Lodge for brunch where the blessed event will take place. We had a great time exploring the grounds and making plans. Afterwards we headed to the Julian Hard Cider for some tasting. We ended the day at the Julian Pie Company for a slice and cinnamon ice cream. All in all a great day!
I loved the rustic details!

Brother Michael Turns 30

A couple of Fridays ago, my dear brother-in-law Michael turned 30! Us Klein Kids were so excited to help him celebrate. We met at his place in Monrovia and then headed to old town Pasadena for a little dinner, wine, and jazz at Redwhite+bluezzz. A good time was had by all and our dear Michael got to celebrate this milestone birthday. The only hitch? 30 candles on the cake turned into a forest fire! Luckily, Brother Michael blew them out right away. I think this might be the last time we do a candle for each year for him. ;-)

Inspiration: Breakfast at Tiffany's

My sister and I have a shared love of all things Audrey Hepburn. We loved her movies growing up: Sabrina, My Fair Lady, Roman Holiday, but the clear favorite was always Breakfast at Tiffany's. Well, joy of joys it is finally on Netflix!! I spent most of yesterday enjoying this fine film and was so inspired. You can turn to Miss Holly Golightly for everything!

Interior? Keep it simple with a pop of color.

Sunday outfit? Keep is casual and add a scarf.

Party time? Good friends, music, and a classic bar cart! (Check out Society Social for the bar cart perfected.)

More outfit inspiration? The classic trench. I love Target's version, chic and cheap.

Also, head over to The Silver Screen Affair and meet Emily. She has the most darling and inspiring blog where I found most of these photos.

A Week of Instagram

I have fallen in LOVE with the Instagram app on my iPhone. So many infinite options and I feel like a better photographer than I really am. My brain is always processing how I can document daily life with this wonderful little app. I thought I would share a weeks worth of Instagram images. Enjoy!

Back to blogging and back from Big Sur

Campsite 21 at Kirk Creek Campground
Wow, where have I been? I'll tell you. Starting a little bloggity blog for work. A little thing called www.modernshopgirl.com has eaten up all my creativity and time. But now that things have finally mellowed out, I'm back in the saddle. Summer is over. To prove it here are some pics from our last vacation of the season.
Husband and I cruised up to beautiful Big Sur with one of our favorite couples, Brett and Cara. We had 4 relaxing days of exploring, hiking, sunsets, and good talks around the campfire. It was truly unforgettable and a great way to say good bye to summer.

It's ok to still look cute while roughing it.

Ready to go...

Finally back to my blog after 2 busy weeks! With all the busy-ness, it has left me dreaming of vacation. A REAL vacation. As hubs and I plan our dream vacations to Greece, Tahiti (we went for our honeymoon but want to go back), and Italy; I can't help but reminisce about the summer I spent in Paris. I went to study fashion and had the most amazing time. Bastille day fireworks at the Eiffel tower, a quick trip to Nice for some sun, eating outside with Notre Dame in full view; I am so blessed to have had those experiences. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the trip.
